Social media spotlight: Aliya Uteuova

Hometown: Astana, Kazakhstan

I’m a political science and journalism major. I’m the culture editor [at the Maine Campus]; being a journalist allows you to really get into a story, report on it, research it and when it’s time to move on, you can. The University of Maine has more than 500 international students on campus. It’s a really tight-knit community. People find similarities despite being from different countries. At UMaine, I am gaining so many skills and experiences and emotions that are vital to anyone to develop.
