Central Valley Business Times reports on UC Davis, UMaine organic farming study

California-based Central Valley Business Times published a University of California, Davis news release announcing a nearly $2 million grant for a food-safety research project led by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and involving a multistate network of collaborators. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Organic Research and Extension Initiative grant will support studies needed to develop national guidelines and best practices for using raw manure while improving soil health and minimizing food-safety risks in organic crops such as leafy greens, tomatoes and root vegetables, according to the release. The University of Maine is among the project collaborators, the release states.
