President Hunter, Provost Hecker write op-ed for BDN

University of Maine President Susan J. Hunter and Jeffrey Hecker, UMaine’s executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, co-wrote an opinion piece for the Bangor Daily News titled, “Why recruiting more UMaine students from away builds a stronger Maine.” The article cited a new study by UMaine economics professor Todd Gabe that evaluates the impact of the university’s out-of-state undergraduate students on Maine’s economy. Gabe’s analysis revealed that out-of-state undergraduate students annually generate about $160 million in economic activity in Maine, according to the article. “Expansion of Maine’s educated workforce is essential for a vibrant Maine economy, and educating more out-of-state students in Maine is essential to that expansion. UMaine is proud to be a partner in building a stronger Maine,” the article states.
