AP advances international fish, shellfish immunology conference

The Associated Press reported about 250 researchers and industry leaders are expected to attend the second International Conference of Fish & Shellfish Immunology June 26–30 in Portland. The University of Maine Aquaculture Research Institute is hosting the event, which organizers said focuses on the health and welfare of wild and farmed aquatic animals. Bassem Allam of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University is one of four scheduled keynote speakers. He will speak about shellfish immunity and response to infections, the AP reported. UMaine is hosting the conference on behalf of the International Society of Fish & Shellfish Immunology. The Portland Press Herald, The Eagle in Texas and Star-Herald in Nebraska carried the AP report. WLBZ (Channel 2) also covered the conference.
