President awards Stephen King the National Medal of Arts

A number of media outlets covered President Barack Obama awarding author Stephen King and 17 others the National Medal of Arts at the White House on Thursday. The award is considered the government’s highest award given to artists and arts patrons.

King is a native of Maine and a University of Maine graduate. MPBN covered the ceremony.

“Without them there would be no edible schoolyard, no … really scary things like ‘Carrie’ and ‘Misery,’” Obama was quoted as saying.

The Portland Press Herald and Bangor Daily News carried the Tribune News Service report. WLBZ2 (Channel 2) carried an AP report.
