Coverage Of Wind Power Conference

A number of media organizations noted this week’s international EnergyOcean Conference in Portland, where UMaine-led technology for developing deepwater off-shore floating wind turbines is among the topics of conversation. Maine Public Radio reported that hundreds of stakeholders from the ocean energy industry are attending the conference. A Bangor Daily News article about the conference said a team of University of Maine engineers and researchers, including School of Marine Sciences Director Peter Jumars and DeepCwind Project Manager Robert Lindyberg, talked about the DeepCwind Consortium, a partnership between academia and industry that hopes to test the first deep-water offshore wind turbine near Monhegan Island in 2012. Offshore Wind Wire noted comments made by Christopher Hart of the U.S. Department of Energy about the potential for the floating turbine technology in the U.S.
