Sun Journal shares Policy Center overdose report findings

In a story about Lewiston-based Community Health Options awarding grants to nonprofit agencies that tackle substance abuse problems, the Sun Journal shared a quote from the organization’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, Maggie Kelley, that cites information from a University of Maine Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center report about overdose fatalities. “One data point illustrating this need comes from the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine (Orono), which reports 247 fatal overdoses between January and May 2021,” Kelley said. “This number is 20% higher than the same period in 2020. It’s also far too many Maine people lost to substance use disorders.”
