Cuba discusses challenges for multilingual learners with Maine Morning Star

Melissa Cuba, assistant professor of special education from the University of Maine, spoke with the Maine Morning Star for a story titled “Maine’s multilingual learners face exacerbated challenges to academic recovery.” Cuba described the growing challenges for multilingual learners in Maine, noting that their exit rates from English language support have decreased even as enrollment has increased to over 7,200 students. She said that inadequate language services and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are widening the achievement gap.
