New book ‘Our Maine’ now available. Edited by Aram Calhoun and Mac Hunter
Our Maine is…
”beautiful enough to sit on a coffee table, but informative and rigorous enough to be an academic resource.”
“reads like love letters to Maine.”
We are thrilled to announce that a new book, Our Maine, edited by Mitchell Center faculty fellows Aram Calhoun and Mac Hunter, has just hit bookshelves. The book includes contributions from thirty Mainers from academia, government, the Wabanaki, and conservation groups. Their goal: to inspire other Mainers and visitors to appreciate Maine’s natural heritage.
Lobsters, blueberries, moose, and a rugged coastlines dotted with lighthouses are emblematic of the state of Maine. But underlying these simple icons is the rich natural heritage of Maine that drives the economy and shapes the state’s culture. The history of Maine’s natural heritage has been co-produced by both the natural and human worlds. The writings and photographs gathered here paint a vivid portrait of Maine’s wild places and wild creatures, and the ways people have shaped the state’s natural heritage.
