Office of Sustainability spring newsletter focuses on food waste

The latest edition of UMaine’s Office of Sustainability newsletter includes an article by undergraduate student Julia Iannuzzi titled, “Food Waste and Solutions for Combating the Crisis”.  The article provides an overview of food waste and a look at how the Mitchell Center’s food waste team, led by Susanne Lee, is taking on the challenge in Maine. She discusses the team’s six pilot solutions that follow the principles of reduction, recovery, and recycling as described in the Maine Food Recovery Hierarchy, and their efforts to rework the food waste system in Maine to go from a linear to a circular system.

Articles on the current state of UMaine’s waste and recycling process (pandemic edition) is also included in the newsletter along with tips and tricks to make transportation more sustainable.
