Nolan Altvater receives Honorable Mention for Udall Scholarship

Mitchell Center student Nolan Altvater received Honorable Mention for the Udall Scholarship in the Native American policy category, as reported in a story and interview by UMaine News on June 16. Nolan is a rising senior with a major in secondary education and a minor in English. He has worked with Bridie McGreavy and the Penobscot Nation on the Future of Dams project.

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. Nolan is the first UMaine student to receive an Honorable Mention from the Udall Foundation in the Native American category since at least 2001.
