News & Media relations

The University of Maine News staff represents the University of Maine to external audiences through promotion of news that advances institutional priorities. Members of the editorial staff offer media relations coordination for the UMaine community, including linking media representatives to university expertise, and promoting university research, public service events and achievements.

Our Role

News staff write and distribute news releases and campus announcements; maintain UMaine News; write media advisories and pitch stories to editors and reporters; connect members of the media with university experts; manage UMaine’s events calendar; promote university stories through a biweekly email newsletter; and support emergency communication.

Emergency Communication

In the event of an emergency, UMaine’s public information officer is the director of university communications. Health and safety announcements, including cancellation of classes due to inclement weather, and emergency alerts are managed by News staff.
