The Boren Awards were established by the National Security Education Act of 1991, which created the National Security Education Board, the National Security Education Program, and a trust fund in the U.S. Treasury to provide resources for scholarships, fellowships and grants. As a Boren Fellow or Scholar you will spend time abroad learning another language and experiencing the culture of your host country.
Benefits:
- $25,000 for 25-52 weeks (any major)
- $12,500 for 12-24 weeks (any major)
- $12,00 for summer intensive language study prior to beginning overseas program
Eligibility:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
- Be planning to study in a country of which they are not a citizen
- Be an undergraduate students — all years and most majors
- Be interested in studying abroad in certain countries
