Framing Maine 2: An Evening of Song and Story with David Mallett

April 7, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

| $20

Maine’s home-grown troubador David Mallett is coming to Orono on April 7th for a special performance that will combine songs with storytelling and an onstage Q&A with Rob Caldwell of WCSH-TV. The event is the second in the series “Framing Maine: Conversations with Storytellers and Imagemakers from the Pine Tree State,” organized by the Maine Studies Program at the University of Maine.

David Mallett will perform and talk about his craft at the Minsky Recital Hall in Orono on April 7th.

Mallett’s appearance at the Minsky Recital Hall on the UMaine campus will combine a performance of Maine-based songs with stories of what inspired them and how he crafted each tune to reflect a particular time and place. His talk will be followed by an onstage interview by Rob Caldwell, long-time reporter and anchor for WCSH-TV News and co-anchor of the station’s popular daily culture and entertainment show “207.” A pre-talk reception will be held at Miller’s Cafe in the Collins Center for the Arts, and is free to all ticket-holders.

Framing Maine is a new series that brings well-known Maine artists, writers, musicians and others to the University of Maine campus to talk about their careers telling Maine’s stories through various media. The series kicked off last November with a talk by television host and reporter Bill Green, including an interview by NPR Washington correspondent and UMaine graduate Brian Naylor.

Tickets to this limited-seating event will be available starting around February 20th; the cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the show, if still available. Discounts are available for students and seniors. Inquiries about group discounts, as well as other questions about the event, can be sent to Maine Studies Director Kreg Ettenger at kreg.ettenger@maine.edu or by phone at 207-581-1840.

This performance will be ASL interpreted; for special seating requests or other ADA accommodations please contact Theresa McMannus at UMaine’s Conferences & Institutes.
