Reading Recovery Teacher Training

Reading Recovery® Teacher Training

  • The University of Maine Training Center for Reading Recovery provides Teacher Training and Continued Professional Development in Sites Statewide.
  • Reading Recovery teacher training follows an apprenticeship model which combines theory and practice as teachers actively work with four students during the day while taking a two-semester graduate level course.
  • Each teacher is involved in designing individual literacy lessons for first-grade students, administering daily assessments to monitor student progress, and collecting and analyzing data under the guidance of a registered Reading Recovery Teacher Leader.
  • Ongoing coaching sessions with the Teacher Leader provide further assistance to the new teacher in teaching for accelerated learning and processing of text in reading and writing.
  • Upon successful completion of training, teachers meeting US standards and guidelines may be registered as Reading Recovery teachers and must engage in ongoing professional development provided by a teacher leader to maintain registration.
