29th Annual Scholar-Athlete Recognition Awards Ceremony showcases CLAS student-athletes achievements
This past Tuesday, student-athletes gathered to celebrate their scholastic achievements. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences was well represented, giving out thirteen bronze medals, seven silver medals, and eleven gold medals, to its students. Each awards color symbolizes the number of years the recipient has received the award. Bronze being one year, silver two years, and gold for the third and fourth years a 3.0 or higher is achieved. In addition, among the 78 first year students who were honored as “Rising Stars”, achieving a 3.0 or better in Fall 2017, eleven were CLAS students.
The Team Maine award honors student-athletes who achieved the highest GPA on their respective teams. This years recipients included two CLAS students. Caleb Kerbs, a Sociology major from the baseball team, claimed this honor for the second consecutive year and Kelsey Maxim, on the women’s cross country and track and field team, a double major in Marketing and Media Studies, received the award as well.
