Apostille for UMaine Diploma
An apostille is a form of authentication which is accepted by countries which have consented to be bound by the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirements of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.
Most often students require an authenticated diploma for their home government or other organization abroad.
If you need an apostille, please follow these steps:
- 1. Follow the instructions on the Office of Student Records website here to request a replacement diploma. Be sure to inform Student Records that you need the diploma notarized for an apostille. Enter the mailing address as OIP at 5775 Stodder Hall, Room 300 Orono, ME 04469-5775.
-
Complete the Shipping Instructions form with your current address so I know where to send the diploma after the apostille is provided. Then make two payments for FedEx shipping using the OIP website. The first should be “domestic” ($18) to ship the notarized diploma via FedEx to Augusta. The second is “international” ($35) so the diploma with apostille can be shipped to you.
-
Review the Maine Government website here for instructions to request an apostille and submit payment. If there are paper forms required to request the apostille and pay for it you should print the forms, fill them out, and then scan and send the forms to umaineimmigration@maine.edu
Once the notarized diploma and any other required documents and/or payments are received at OIP we will begin the process and provide the FedEx tracking numbers via email so you can track both shipments.
