Tributaries, 2020

Jessica Brainerd
Printed x-ray, embroidery floss, and canvas

Tributaries is the first in a series using the artist’s x-rays and examining the flow of the blood through the body – using embroidery to represent the rivers and streams formed through the body.

Jessica Brainerd stands in front of a set of colorful lights. She smiles a closed mouth smile. She wears glasses, a winter jacket, and a green knit cap.

About Jessica

A diagnosis of a degenerative nerve disease years ago has forced me to accept the physical constraints I am working with, and find ways to embrace the changes in my work along with changes in the conditions of my body.  My current focus is largely on the systems of the body, how they function, or, in some cases don’t function.
