Graduate Candidates: What to expect

important dates and deadlines

Additional deadlines may be added as they become available.

February

  • FEBRUARY 1 – Deadline to apply to graduate and be included in the program
  • FEBRUARY 28 – Deadline to order custom doctoral regalia from the bookstore

March

  • MARCH 26 – Grad Fair from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Master’s regalia available at the bookstore today, and on the bookstore website on March 27.
  • MARCH 28 – Deadline to order rental doctoral regalia. You must secure doctoral regalia in order to participate in the Commencement ceremony.

April

  • APRIL 25 – Doctoral candidates who wish to participate in commencement must successfully present and orally defend their dissertation by this date. Committee members must sign the Final Thesis Acceptance Form at the defense.

May

  • MAY 10 – The Graduate School Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to about 9:00 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center.

Doctoral candidates may participate in Commencement ceremonies if all of the requirements below are met.

Notice of Oral Examination

2 Weeks before your defense, a Notice of Oral Examination has been submitted to the Graduate School.

Submit Your Tentative Dissertation

Submit a tentative dissertation to the Graduate School at least 24 hours prior to your defense.

Defend by April 25

Successfully present and orally defend the dissertation by April 25. Committee members must sign the Final Thesis Acceptance Form at the defense.

Submit the Final Thesis Acceptance Form

Submit a copy of the Final Thesis Acceptance Form demonstrating an affirmative vote of the Committee. Students not submitting a final copy of their dissertations by the May deadlines may march at Commencement if they have successfully passed the dissertation defense, but they will officially receive their degrees in August upon completion of remaining requirements.
