Research Communication Graduate Assistant

General Description:

Under direct supervision, this graduate student will support communications efforts for the Office of the
Vice President of Research at the University of Maine along with other units and centers. Tasks are
normally accomplished within well-defined procedures and are catered to the graduate assistant’s
experience. This position will work closely with the communications manager but is required to exercise
independent judgment and creativity.

Essential Duties:

The candidate will create high-quality written content for digital and print publications. In addition, based on the skills and interests of the candidate, additional duties will be assigned from the following range of activities:

  • Produce video content documenting research and other programs at UMaine to use for social media, the web, and other media
  • Photograph UMaine research and education projects, events, and activities
  • Create, update, and maintain web content on various UMaine webpages
  • Grow and develop UMaine Research’s social media presence
  • Graphic design, layouts, and production
  • Maintain and manage media content
  • Assist with other media, communications, events, etc. as needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
    Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience with and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Products
  • Experience with WordPress

Student must have filed a FAFSA form and must be work-study eligible.
