Graduate Assistantship Position Announcement- Office of Admissions (Spring 2025):

Job Description

The Office of Admission is seeking a Graduate Assistant to aid in recruiting undergraduate students. This 12-month position will begin the Spring Semester of 2025.


General Responsibilities

  • Serve as an ambassador of the University of Maine and work closely with prospective students and their families in their
  • transition to higher education.
  • Coordinate and carry out the logistics of the weekly campus tours and Visitor Center operations including managing the campus tour and admissions email, scheduling, greeting families, answering questions, managing student tour guides (Team Maine), keeping and organizing inventory, giving welcome presentations, and conducting calling campaigns.
  • Assist in the planning, executing, and assessing on and off-campus Admission events such as Open House Programs, School Counselor Update Events, Accepted Student Receptions, Accepted Student Days, and New Student Orientation Programs.
  • Aid in the operation of the Office of Admissions: including application review, recruitment travel, answering phones, data collection, and analysis.
  • Work with a team of diverse and dynamic administrators, staff members, student employees, campus constituents, and the greater community.
  • Aid in the content creation for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok.
  • Send out reports and counts to individuals in the Office of Admissions, Office of Recruitment, and Enrollment Management.

Qualifications

  • Maintain regular office hours (20 hours per week) with some nights and weekends required.
  • Experience in undergraduate admissions and/or new student orientation preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Google Docs, Microsoft Office, and/or web programming preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a Motor Pool vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Applicants must be admitted to a UMaine graduate degree program and enrolled full-time. Graduate students from any discipline are welcome to apply. Due to funding constraints, you must be eligible for Federal Work-Study (if you are not sure about your eligibility, please contact The Office of Student Financial Aid at 581-1324).

What does it pay?

The appointment carries a stipend of $22,666.68 plus a tuition waiver for up to 9 graduate credits per semester (Fall and Spring) and 6 credits during the summer. This is a 12-month position, requiring a commitment of 20 hours per week during regular office hours. If the applicant elects to participate in the University’s student health insurance plan, this appointment will also cover half of that cost.
