The University of Maine Geological Society (fondly known as the ‘Geology Club’), is an exciting way for undergraduate students to share their love of the geosciences, and learn more about this field and beyond. The Geology Club is accessible to any student no matter their academic background, anyone is welcome to join! Our activities and events are made to be hands-on learning experiences that allow members to gain field work experience and develop professional skills. But most importantly, it’s a great way to have fun with others who share your interest in geology! We meet weekly during a scheduled meeting time on campus where we host various social and educational activities, like rock painting, geode cracking, rock tumbling, and movie night. We also host weekend trips throughout the school year to go rock hounding, camping, attend conferences, and many other activities!

Geology Club does many types of events and activities. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Geology Field Trips
  • Rock Collecting
  • Rock and Mineral Shows
  • Trivia Nights
  • Mineral Displays
  • Research Presentations
  • Movie Nights
  • Game Nights
