Support FIRST
UMaine’s Frontier Institute for Research in Sensor Technologies (formerly Laboratory for Surface Science & Technology or LASST) brings together students, faculty and industrial collaborators for research and experimentation into the advancement of surfaces and interfaces, thin films, microelectronic devices, sensor technology and nanotechnology. Our scientists profit from the combined expertise of diverse backgrounds in physics, chemistry, microbiology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science and bioengineering. Their work will contribute to scientific advancements in space and air craft, future computers and medical technologies, among many other areas of science and nanotechnology. Here at FIRST, we educate and train the next generation of scientists and engineers.
