Karen Merritt
Karen is an Environmental Geologist and Public Health Engineer (Ph.D., MPH) and has worked on projects characterizing chemical fate and transport in estuarine and coastal environments in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the E.U. As a Public Health Engineer, her work focuses on health disparities created and perpetuated by infrastructural frameworks and environmental and chemical exposures. Karen currently teaches at Maine Maritime Academy.
Karen has traveled extensively, including time living and working in Latin America. She has also done pro bono water and infrastructure projects in Bolivia and Haiti.
Beginning with the Honduras Project Karen has been a mentor with EWB. She assisted in the final implementation and monitoring trips. She also traveled with us on our assessment trip to Ecuador in May 2016. All of the EWB members, and especially the travel team greatly appreciate her willingness to provide assistance and lend her expertise to our projects.
