New for 2024: EPIC welcomes tenured and tenure-track faculty throughout the University of Maine System to expand experiential learning opportunities for all Maine undergraduates. For this call, UMS faculty are encouraged to consider how EPIC-supported experiential activity may enhance existing curriculum, providing students with new ways to engage with foundational learning in applied settings, and to connect their classwork today with their careers of tomorrow.

No, this is a separate call for development and enhancement of existing courses integrating research and experiential learning into student learning.

Proposals that include curricular changes for multiple courses and sections, or are composed of teams rather than individuals, are welcomed; however, each award will still be capped at the $10,000 limit. The award is meant to support enhancements for a single course.

This round only accepts proposals for Fall 2024 course modifications. Contingent upon availability of funding, the next round will be focused on Spring 2025 courses.

All undergraduate courses at various levels are eligible.

Priority consideration will be given to courses that are already part of the EPIC certification program or are in the process of being approved as part of a new certificate.

Supplies that are needed to support your course delivery with experiential modules, such as chemicals for lab experiments, paper and 3D printing supplies, art media, recording devices for interviews, field study sample collection supplies, and similar items, are allowable. Consumables and specialized equipment remaining at the end of the Fall 2024 semester may be retained for use in subsequent semesters of the same course. General purpose equipment such as computers are not allowed.

Your proposal does not have to include undergraduate stipends, but if you choose to include them, they are meant to support undergraduates who may work with you between May and June to prepare materials or equipment for your Fall 2024 course. The stipend is not to be distributed to enrollees in your Fall 2024 course.

The final report will the following components to assess the success of the proposed project:  assessment of student learning outcomes as defined by the proposer; feedback from the instructor; feedback from students; and plans for future sustainability of this course.
