Federal & State Government Relations

The University of Maine’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development supports federal and state government relations for the university’s R&D mission. OIED works to ensure the University of Maine is responsive to state and federal needs, and works to create partnerships that enhance the quality of life in Maine. UMaine is dedicated to creating a prosperous future for Maine and its citizens, and is contributing to the Maine economy through education, research, development and commercialization.

The Government Relations team actively acts as a liaison with the Maine Legislature to create a two-way, transparent flow of information between the University and Maine elected officials. Specifically, the government relations team:

  • Tracks and works on legislation impacting UMaine
  • Responds to specific requests for information and research
  • Coordinates testimonies of UMaine scientific experts for legislative hearings
  • Serves as an internal liason to help facilitate UMaine staff communication efforts and help with protocol
