Kelley, Roche to take part in conversation about coastal resilience, sea level rise
A University of Maine marine geologist and Ph.D. student will participate in the first webinar of the Bangor Daily News Climate Conversation series at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13.
“BDN Climate Conversations: Coastal Resilience and Sea Level Rise,” will feature Joseph Kelley, a professor of marine geology with the School of Earth and Climate Sciences with a cooperating appointment with the Climate Change Institute; and Abby Roche, a Ph.D. student in the Communication and Journalism Department, among other speakers.
Kelley studies responses of developed and pristine shorelines to sea-level change, which involves measuring alterations in sea level and studying contemporary coastal processes.
Roche is a community-based researcher. For her dissertation, she focuses on public engagement in risk-related decision-making contexts and how participatory communication approaches may influence the diverse and complex ways area citizens engage in practices to build resilience to local coastal flooding.
Registration is required, and can be done on the event webpage. The conversation will be the first in the four-part BDN Climate Conversations series.
