Robert Wheeler
Professor of Microbiology Robert Wheeler started his career at UMaine in 2008, after his previous experience as a post-doctoral fellow at Whitehead Institute (2000 – 2007).

Microbiology (pathogenesis of fungal disease, fungal-bacterial interaction); Immunology (innate immunity to fungal disease)
Professional Objectives:
Our laboratory’s goal is to discover fundamental aspects of fungal pathogenesis and host response to understand fungal diseases and improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of fungal diseases.
Duties and Skills:
– Research: Apply for and administer grants; Supervise technicians, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students
– Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Immunology and Infectious Disease
– Service: Serve as Graduate Co-Coordinator for M.S. and Ph.D. programs in the Molecular and Biomedical Sciences Department; Serve on various committees for the department, college, and university
