Meredith Kirkmann

From 2010 to 2017, Meredith served in a host of roles at MaineDOT, ending her time there as a Senior Project Manager in the Highway Program serving the midcoast region of Maine. Other roles included Geotechnical Engineer and State Project Construction Superintendent.

As a Senior Project Manager at MaineDOT, Meredith supervised the technician and engineering staff for the Highway Program. She was responsible for the scope, design, and budget of highway projects in her Region. She coordinated project delivery to bring projects to advertisement, and continued coordinating through construction with the construction managers and residents so that projects were built as designed.

From 2006 to 2009, Meredith worked with Sewall Company in Old Town, Maine on site design, transportation design and permitting, and estimating.

Now, as an instructor in the Construction Engineering Technology Program, Meredith focuses on active learning in her classrooms, with students spending in-class time actively participating in group projects, problem solving, and discussions. She has flipped some classes, providing short video lectures for students to watch prior to class time so that in-class time can be spent engaging deeply with material. She teaches courses including Soil Mechanics, Construction Safety, Civil Infrastructure, and Heavy Construction Quality Assurance.

  • Member of the President’s Council of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Maine and University of Maine Machias
  • OSHA-Authorized Construction Industry 10- and 30-hour Trainer
  • Member of the American Society of Engineering Education
  • Member of WTS-Maine
