March 2023:

  • Lab members Madison Raza, Jordan Miner, and Maggie McCarthy presented the lab’s latest breast cancer research at the 2023 Northeast Bioengineering Conference
  • Lab members Basel White, Jordan Miner, Jeremy Juybari, and lab alumnus Zach Marin participated in the UT Southwestern Medical Center Breast Cancer Hackathon. Jeremy’s team placed 2nd, and Jordan’s team won the patient’s advocate award.

December 2022:

  • Lab director Andre Khalil presented the lab’s latest work at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting in Chicago

November 2022:

  • Lab members Jordan Miner, Maggie McCarthy, and Madison Raza presented their research at the Northeast Symposium on Biomedical Optics hosted by the Center For Biomedical OCT Research & Translation at Massachusetts General Hospital

October 2022:

  • Lab members Basel White and Josh Hamilton presented their research at the 2022 Biomedical Engineering Society meeting in San Antonio, TX
    • Basel’s presented his masters work, titled “Hybrid Power Spectral and Wavelet Image Roughness Analysis.”
    • Josh’s presented a portion of his PhD research, comparing our wavelet-based anisotropy score calculated from second harmonic generation images of patient biopsies to BI-RADS assessment scores on that patient’s mammogram.

September 2022:

  • Lab members Andre Khalil and Kendra Batchelder presented their work at the Why Study Mammographic Density? conference.

August 2022:

  • Our breast cancer work entitled “Computational Assessment of Healthy vs. Risky Mammographic Breast Density” was selected to be presented at the 2022 Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting

June 2022:

  • Lab members Josh Hamilton and Jordan Miner participated in the INBRE-supported Maine Microscopy Course
  • Kendra Batchelder and Andre Khalil presented their breast cancer commercialization project, WAVED, at the Maine Innovation Research and Technology Accelerator (MIRTA) showcase
  • Kendra and Andre also participated in I-Corps kickoff week

May 2022:

  • Josh Hamilton and Kendra Batchelder presented their research projects at the BIOME (Bioscience Association of Maine) student showcase. They presented their work on computational diagnostic tools applied to pancreatic cancer pathology slides and breast cancer mammograms, respectively. Josh came in third place at the showcase and won $500

April 2022:

  • Lab members Josh Hamilton, Basel White, and Melissa Ham presented at the Northeast Bioengineering Conference. Josh’s poster was entitled “Multiscale Anisotropy Analysis of Second Harmonic Generation Imaging of Pancreatic Cancer,” Basel’s was entitled “Hybrid Power Spectral and Wavelet Image Roughness Analysis,” and Melissa’s was entitled “Design of Device for Analysis of Diffusion in a Hydrogel Using Image Analysis”.

      • In addition, Basel, Maggie, and the rest of their team presented a poster entitled “Non-Contact Image Analysis of Breathing Rate using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)”, a project that won second place overall in the undergraduate student poster competition.   • Kendra Batchelder attended the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCoBC) Interdisciplinary Annual conference
  • Andre Khalil and Kendra Batchelder were participants in the 5th Maine Innovation Research and Technology Accelerator (MIRTA) cohort

September 2021:

  • Basel White and Josh Hamilton presented posters at the BMES 2021 conference. Basel presented a poster titled “Wavelet-Based Automatic Breast Segmentation from Mammograms,” and Josh presented a poster titled “Wavelet-Based Anisotropy Analysis of Second Harmonic Generation Images of Pancreatic Cancer”

  • Basel White was featured in S4E6 of the podcast “The Maine Question”, discussing the value of undergraduate research
  • Katherine Jarvis gave a presentation titled “Temporal Dynamics of Viral Load and False Negative Rate Influence the Levels of Testing Necessary to Combat COVID-19 Spread” at the UMaine Student Symposium
  • Jeremy Juybari and Aidan Greenlee gave a presentation on Multiscale Image Colocalization at the UMaine Student Symposium

January 2021:

  • Lab director Andre Khalil and Kendra Batchelder gave a presentation titled “Novel computational technology to pre-detect breast cancer: Moving towards commercialization” to the Bioscience Association of Maine’s January Coffee Hour
