LMS Check List for Accessibility
For Vision Impaired in LMS
The UMS LMS (Brightpsace) is set up in a way most screenreaders can access and navigate. To enhance a better experience with the screenreader, there is something you can start by checking:
-
You need to have alt-tags for all images and graphics within your LMS/Brightspace course shell.
-
You should use headings and sub-headings if you have large blocks of text in LMS.
-
Your PDF files should not be saved as image files (this includes pdfs you may link to on external sites).
-
Videos that you share should have captions.
-
If you use figures and charts, consider how a screen reader will interpret them.
-
If your course in which you uses a 3rd party/external integration/software, you should understand how a vision-impaired student will access it.
-
If you send students to external sites, you should make certain that these sites will be accessible to your students.
