LMS Check List for Accessibility

For Vision Impaired in LMS

The UMS LMS (Brightpsace) is set up in a way most screenreaders can access and navigate. To enhance a better experience with the screenreader, there is something you can start by checking:

  1. You need to have alt-tags for all images and graphics within your LMS/Brightspace course shell.
  2. You should use headings and sub-headings if you have large blocks of text in LMS.
  3. Your PDF files should not be saved as image files (this includes pdfs you may link to on external sites).
  4. Videos that you share should have captions.
  5. If you use figures and charts, consider how a screen reader will interpret them.
  6. If your course in which you uses a 3rd party/external integration/software, you should understand how a vision-impaired student will access it.
  7. If you send students to external sites, you should make certain that these sites will be accessible to your students.
