Procedure for Canadian Studies Awards and Fellowships:

DEADLINE FOR ALL ACADEMIC YEAR AWARD APLICATIONS: FEBRUARY 15

Application Requirements and Guidelines

1. Print the following:

  • Cover Sheet (required for FLAS, Canadian-American Center Fellowships, New England-Atlantic Provinces-Québec Fellowships, and Alice R. Stewart Graduate Fellowships)

2. FLAS and Summer FLAS only; follow the special instructions here:

3. Graduate Student applicants shall provide the following to their Department’s Graduate Coordinators:

  • a completed and signed application Cover Sheet (see link above)
  • a copy of the student’s transcripts (does not have to be an official copy)
  • a two-page description of their research, including :
    • a description of the project
    • the student’s potential plans following graduation
      • For new applicants:
        • include a statement of purpose (at least 1 paragraph)
      • For current awardees who are reapplying:
        • discuss your methodology (1 paragraph) and current stage of the project
        • a one page bibliography (list at least 10 titles of books and articles used for research)

4. Graduate Student Applicant’s advisor shall write a letter endorsing the student and his/her work, and shall provide this to the Department’s Graduate Coordinator.

5. Department’s Graduate Coordinator shall complete the Cover Sheet for each application, shall coordinate each application packet,  and may include an optional cover letter.

NOTE:  A digital copy of the completed application packet (preferably in a single PDF) shall be delivered by email on or before the due date to Frederic Rondeau, Canadian-American Center, University of Maine, 154 College Ave, Orono, ME 04473.
