The following Campus Recreation session-based fitness programs have been approved to satisfy the 2018 RiseUp Level 2 taxable benefit:

Session-Based Fitness Programs last 6-12 weeks, and registration is required. Try before you buy, with a free trial period of all fitness programs* during the first week of each semester! Non-members’ facility entry fee not included. * Excludes ACE Personal Training Course, Black Bear Fit, and Healthy High Couch to 5K.

ACE Personal Trainer Course – Spring 2019
This 10-week course will give you the knowledge and skills to pass the ACE Personal Trainer Exam.  The class will cover anatomy, physiology, training techniques, injury prevention, special populations and strategies for effective personal training.  The course includes hands on demos of case studies that introduces a variety of equipment you can use to train your clients.  Highly recommended for students pursuing a personal trainer position with Campus Recreation.
Registration Deadline: January 31, 2019
Meets: M/W 3:30-5:00 pm
Spring Session: February 4 – April 17 2019
Member & Non-Member:  $200 (class and books), or $95 (class only) Rent the 4th Edition from Campus Rec for $75 (books are limited). Receive $40 back if returned in good condition. Contact

Healthy High Couch to 5K – Spring 2019
Do you want to run your first 5k? Or maybe improve your time from last year? Let us help you achieve your goals for UMaine’s Healthy High 5k. Meet every week with a trainer who will lead you on a run and provide you with an easy week-to-week training schedule. Race registration fee waived for the first 10 registrants thanks to SWELL! This is a great way to earn RiseUp points.

 6 Week Session-Based Fitness Programs:

The first week of every semester is FREE WEEK! Attend any Session Based Fitness Class* or FitPass class for free. *This excludes ACE Personal Training Course, Black Bear Fit, and Healthy High Couch to 5K.

Summer Session 1: 5/14  – 6/29  (no classes May 28) (7 weeks)
Summer Session 2: 7/9 – 8/24 (7 weeks)

Strong Women
This is not your typical workout class, but a class that will teach compound weight training exercises to build true strength.  The class is meant to empower women to weight train and feel good about their bodies and what it can do!  So ditch the countless hours on the treadmill, elliptical, or stair master and unleash your true strength. (UMaine Employees! This class satisfies the 2018 RiseUp Level 2 taxable benefit!)
Meets: M/W 9:00-10:00 a.m. (Weight Room Floor)

SUP Pilates
Stand up paddleboard (SUP) Pilates offers a total body conditioning workout on essentially a floating yoga mat. Simple exercises performed in a studio take on a whole new challenge! Come bask in the bliss of exercising in nature with us as you experience a fun new way to exercise. No SUP experience necessary. Boards, paddles, and PFD’s (personal flotation device) are provided.

Senior Yoga
Yoga enhances your flexibility, but flexibility is not required in order to begin. Clear instructions are given – both for your safety and so you can learn to do the practice on your own if you wish. There is no pressure to perform any pose beyond your present ability. Every class begins with a warm-up and concludes with a guided deep relaxation. Rollin Stearns began teaching yoga at the Integral Yoga Institute in NYC in 1970.

Fit Over 50
Designed for adults aged 50+ who would like to increase strength, range of motion, agility, balance, and coordination as well as improve overall health. All exercises can be modified to be performed from a chair. This class is a great way to meet new people and socialize.

In-Deep! Aqua
This deep water aqua fitness program will have you suspended in the deep end utilizing floating belts and water weights for an awesome workout. The program is available to members for free. Non-members can purchase an In-Deep Aqua Pass good for the entire semester.
Summer Session: May 15 – Aug 23
Meets: Tu/Th – 12:00-1:00 p.m. (Wallace Pool)
Member: FREE!; Non-Member: $45

Swim Fit
Enjoy friendly team camaraderie, helpful stroke instruction, and workouts customized for every level. Year-round classes. Packages are available that offer 24, 16 or 8 classes. Participants are required to provide their own goggles. Pool lockers are available for no charge but there is no towel service.
