Christopher Noren
Christopher Noren is a second-year Ph.D. student studying applied scallop aquaculture techniques. Prior to this, Christopher spent several years as a ‘Bio-Bum’ working in a diverse range of fields from pacific halibut fisheries surveys in Alaska and Canada to artisanal fisheries impacts on megafauna in Mozambique. His current research investigates growth rates of the Atlantic sea scallop (Placopecten magellanicus) for the emerging scallop aquaculture industry in Maine. Maximizing growth to harvest and understanding labor pathways is key to the successful culture of marine organisms and this work compares growth between two types of gear: traditional lantern nets and Japanese ear hanging. Christopher also assists with the management of the Darling Marine Centers Experimental Aquaculture Station.
