Ellen Lord

Ellen began working in the Marine Water Quality Laboratory at the Darling Marine Center as an Analytical Research Associate in the summer of 2023 .She had previously been working as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a variety of settings and has a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with a focus in Wildlife Biology and a minor in Geography. She began her career at Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston working under an Endocrinologist and for the Endocrinology group of physicians at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.  Ellen continued her education and training in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Toxicology Urinalysis,Parasitology and microbiology, taking courses at Harvard Extension in Cambridge, Massachusetts, University of Southern Maine in Portland and at the University of Maine in Orono. She focused in Immunohematology and blood gasses at trauma centers such as Boston Medical Center and at the Maine Medical Center Stat Laboratory. Ellen has maintained a current certification in Clinical Chemistry from the American Society of Clinical Pathology and doesn’t necessarily miss performing phlebotomy and specimen processing.

Ellen grew up in the Newburyport, Massachusetts area but frequented Maine all year to spend time at a camp on Parker Pond. Ellen now lives in Durham, Maine, with her husband and cat NIko but they spend most weekends on their small sailboat in Muscongus Harbor with weekend trips to Harbor Island, Maple Juice Cove or Port Clyde. Ellen enjoys skiing, camping, kayaking, sailing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. She is enjoying pivoting her focus to marine science and feels privileged to learn from the amazing group at the Darling Marine Center.
