Applying For Financial Aid - What is the Student Aid Report (SAR)?

The Student Aid Report (SAR) is a document students are emailed or mailed by the Federal Processing Center after the FAFSA is processed. Your SAR will list all of the answers you provided on the FAFSA. You should review these answers carefully to make sure they are correct. Incorrect or missing data will delay your financial aid award and may result in loss of aid. If you need to make any changes, you can go to and select Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA from the FAFSA Follow-Up section or you can do so on the SAR and mail it back to the address provided. Mailing a SAR correction may delay financial aid awarding.

The SAR will also state your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) which measures your family’s financial strength, and is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid during one school year. We will use this number to calculate your financial aid eligibility based on our calculated cost of attendance.*

Once your SAR is accurate, keep it with your financial aid records and monitor your MaineStreet Student Center. You and/or your parents may be asked to provide additional information to verify information listed on the FAFSA. If such documentation is required, we will notify you in writing once we have begun to review your application. The additional documents you need to provide will also be listed on your MaineStreet To Do ListIf you do not respond to requests for additional information by the due date, even if you filed your FAFSA prior to March 1, you may lose aid eligibility.
