Sergio graduated in 1991 from the Universidad de Oriente in Cumaná, Venezuela, with a bachelor’s degree in physics. In 1998, he received his Ph.D. in Physics from The City College of the City University of New York. In 2001, he received a master’s degree in computational finance from The Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology (now Oregon Health and Science University).
Sergio’s teaching activities involve lecturing undergraduate and graduate physics courses at his home university, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Venezuela. His research interests include physics education research, fluid flow in porous media, and the application of the theory of complex systems and statistical mechanics in financial engineering.
Currently, Sergio is a visiting professor with the Physics Education Research Laboratory at the University of Maine.
