CLAS 2014 Outstanding Students

 

Outstanding Graduating Senior:
Ariel Bothen – Anthropology / International Affairs: Political Science

 

 

Outstanding Graduate Student:
Hollie Smith – Communication and Journalism

 This year the CLAS Dean’s office is proud to announce that both the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2014 are from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
 

Class of 2014 Valedictorian — Sierra Ventura

Sierra J. Ventura of Belfast, Maine, is the 2014 valedictorian
at the University of Maine. Ventura majored in music education. Her honors include membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

Throughout her undergraduate career, she was active in UMaine’s chapter of the National  Association of Music Education, including two years as treasurer.

At right, during the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Outstanding Faculty and Student Awards Ceremony, President Paul Ferguson presented Sierra Ventura with a medallion and congratulations on her achievements at the University of Maine.

 

 

 

Class of 2014 Salutatorian — Jennifer Chalmers

Jennifer Chalmers of Foxborough, Massachusetts, is the University of Maine Class of 2014 salutatorian.

The Honors College student majored in English and history, with minors in education and Spanish. She received highest honors for her honors thesis, a historical and literary research project titled, “Teaching Literature in America: Demonstrating Relevance in the Early Cold War (1945-1963).”

At the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Outstanding Faculty and Student Awards ceremony, President Paul Ferguson awarded Jennifer Chalmers with a medallion and congratulations on her college achievements.
