Department of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences

 The Department of Molecular & Biomedical Sciences (MBMS) seeks a 50% research-50% teaching, tenure-track, academic year, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, effective September 2013.  The successful applicant will teach and provide research opportunities for undergraduate students in capstone research and independent study and for graduate students.  The successful candidate will develop and maintain an externally funded research program as well as teach undergraduate Microbiology, another specialty in Microbiology, and develop a graduate course in their specialty.  The specific research emphasis of this position is flexible and may include, but is not limited to, the use of genomic and proteomic approaches to study the host-pathogen interactions, response to pathogenic infection, or microbial pathogenesis, quorum sensing and other factors in microbial population dynamics. The University has a state-of-the-art zebrafish facility and is building a core of investigators applying genomics approaches to biomedical research.  A Ph.D. in Microbiology, or a relevant field is required by date of hire.  Postdoctoral research experience is also required.
