Position Description: The School of Earth and Climate Sciences at the University of Maine invites applications for a 2-year, fixed-term lecturer position in Earth Surface Processes. This is a non-tenure track, nine-month academic year, 100% teaching appointment. We seek a vibrant, enthusiastic candidate with strong organizational skills who is committed to fostering an inclusive environment for undergraduate education.
Essential position responsibilities include undergraduate teaching, undergraduate advising, and departmental service. Teaching responsibilities will include mid- and upper-level undergraduate courses focused on Earth systems, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and geospatial applications. Some courses have teaching assistant support, most involve off campus field trips to observe relevant Earth processes, and we strongly encourage undergraduate experiential learning and research experiences. Academic advising for undergraduate students includes developing a plan of study for their degree, as well as addressing ongoing issues such as financial need, academic probation, and student personal issues. The successful candidate will also conduct departmental service such as serving on committees and working groups related to undergraduate education.

Position Description: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIE) at the University of Maine (UMaine) invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in coastal engineering and infrastructure resilience. The desired areas of expertise may include but are not limited to, coastal infrastructure risk assessment, coastal infrastructure design under uncertainty, and compound coastal extreme event assessment and impacts. The CIE program is especially interested in applicants whose focus includes equity and sustainability considerations in coastal engineering, particularly improving community resilience.
This position is a joint appointment between the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Maine Sea Grant. Maine Sea Grant, in partnership with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and others, has a geographically dispersed Marine Extension Team that continually works with and identifies on-the-ground needs in coastal Maine communities to ensure that its work is relevant to the people of Maine. Position Description: The Department of Geography and Environmental Systems (GES) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications from scholars in coastal science, pursuing a research agenda in hydrology, ecology, geomorphology, wetland biogeochemistry, or fisheries. Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to candidates whose research focus emphasizes biophysical dynamics and resilience of coastal systems in the context of global social and environmental change.
The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally-funded research program while teaching a combination of introductory physical geography or environmental science courses and advanced courses (at the undergraduate and graduate levels) in their area of specialty. Research Fellows – UMass / MassDEP Safe Drinking Water Programs [Multiple Positions] – Posted October 2024

Program Description: The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is partnering with UMass Amherst to provide technical and training support for the development and implementation of Safe Drinking Water Programs, in particular the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, and Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Rule.
UMass is hiring Research Fellows to assist MassDEP with Safe Drinking Water programs by providing assistance with the operational, technical, financial, and managerial aspects of public water systems (PWS) in Massachusetts. Several full- and part-time positions are available. Research fellows will be hired at three levels dependent on a candidate’s qualifications: 1) Safe Drinking Water Facilitator (qualified), 2) Safe Drinking Water Associate (more qualified), 3) Safe Drinking Water Specialist (most qualified). There is a 40% weekly travel to one of MassDEP’s offices including the regions and Boston. Compensation may vary $30.00 -$45.00/hr.
