roles & commitments

UVAC will train all those who join us to ensure you’re ready to go!

Shifts

Members are not automatically assigned to shifts, and instead must request to work them. If members are not available for an entire shift, they can request to work a partial shift, however preference will be given to those who are able to work the full shift.
While on shift, members are expected to stay on campus, and stay together at base whenever possible.

Day Shifts (08:00–19:00)

As UVAC is fully student run, members who are working day shifts are allowed to go to classes while on shift, however they MUST leave class to respond if UVAC is paged. UVAC always emphasizes to put education first, and the student supervisor will try to best accommodate the schedule so members will not be on shift during class.

The day shift crew is expected to do basic maintenance and chores throughout the day.

If a member is going to class on shift, they are required to take a UVAC vehicle (typically Car 1) as well as a radio. With this being the case, members must be driver cleared to attend classes on shift.

Night Shifts (1900 – 800)

Members working the night shift are required to stay the night at base. The night shift crew is required to perform a truck check at the start of their shift.

At base, there are 2 bedrooms (separated by gender) that each have 3 beds, along with plenty of pillows and blankets. The pager system is wired throughout base and the bedrooms.

Events & Game Shifts

UVAC covers the UMaine D1 sporting events that occur on campus. At all games, our second unit is put into service and has a primary provider and driver dedicated to the teams on the field. At large attendance events such as football and hockey games, field crews, consisting of at least one primary provider and one secondary provider, are put into service to provide first aid to spectators.
