Alpha Sigma Phi
The Theta Xi chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi (AlphaSig) at the University of Maine was founded on campus in 2016 with the mission to better man through the creation and perpetuation of a brotherhood founded on the values of character: Silence, Charity, Purity, Honor, and Patriotism. Alpha Sigma Phi has five philanthropic partners (one for each of its values): RAINN, Active Minds, Hazing Prevention Network, Shatterproof, and Homes for Our Troops. Our chapter heavily emphasizes community involvement, service, and philanthropy through weekly volunteering and multiple semesterly fundraising events; in our efforts to better the man, our “To Better The Man” scholarship is given out semesterly to those who exemplify our values regardless of membership status.
As one of the University’s newest fraternities, our chapter closely works with our Alumni and Founding Fathers. Membership in Alpha Sigma Phi continues beyond one’s college career as a local and national network for social and career connections.
The pride of Alpha Sigma Phi is being a proactive support system through its leadership structure. Membership means pursuing & being supported in personal goals, social networking, and organizational leadership in the fraternity and school community. Life skills such as responsibility, academic balance, mental health upkeep, financial independence, and career development are attributes of an AlphaSig fostered through our chapter’s culture.

Alpha Tau Omega
The Beta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Tau Omega at the University of Maine is committed to fostering leadership, academic excellence, and lifelong brotherhood. Since our founding in 1880, we have provided a supportive environment where men can grow into leaders within our community and beyond. Nationally, ATO offers leadership development programs such as Men of Destiny, Altitude, and Encounter, equipping brothers with the skills and experiences necessary for success in their personal and professional lives. We believe in giving our members a voice, offering them the opportunity to be part of something greater than themselves, and building bonds that last a lifetime.
At Beta Upsilon, we take pride in being more than just a fraternity—we are a family. Our close-knit brotherhood ensures that every member has a personal connection with one another, fostering a culture of trust, support, and shared ambition.
Alpha Tau Omega was the first fraternity founded after the Civil War, created to unite young men from the North and South. It was also the first fraternity founded as a national organization, established not in imitation or opposition to any existing fraternity, and built upon Christian values.
The Beta Upsilon chapter of Alpha Tau Omega is dedicated to making a difference in our community through service and philanthropy. Our chapter proudly supports the Bangor Humane Society, with 100% of the proceeds from our philanthropy events benefiting this cause. In addition to fundraising, our brothers volunteer directly with the organization multiple times each semester, assisting with various needs to help care for animals and support the shelter’s mission.
Through our dedication to philanthropy, service, and leadership, Beta Upsilon continues to uphold the values of Alpha Tau Omega while making a positive impact at the University of Maine and beyond.

Beta Theta Pi
The University of Maine Beta Eta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi shares a deep history with the university being the oldest house on campus. Our chapter was founded in 1879. The chapter house was built in 1905 and houses 28 brothers at maximum capacity. As a brotherhood, we
work to build a fraternity that recognizes mutual assistance in the honorable labors and aspirations of life, devotion to the cultivation of the intellect, unsullied friendship, and unfaltering fidelity, shaping our men to be well-rounded men of principle going into their postgraduate years of life.
Beta Theta Pi is a Nationally recognized fraternity that comes with a valuable network of brothers and professionals across the United States and Canada. Our brothers attend annual leadership conferences, nationally and regionally, where they meet with important leaders from all over the country. One of our major resources is our strong alumni board and network which keeps the history and standards of our brotherhood alive. Being a Beta comes with a lifelong friendship and a sense of belonging to a brotherhood that settles for nothing but the best.
