Laboratory Research Specialist

The purpose of this position is to provide support services, including electrical and mechanical maintenance, to laboratories at the University of Maine.

The Laboratory Research Specialist troubleshoots laboratory equipment, performs mechanical and electrical maintenance, removes and replaces defective parts, orders parts and maintains required documents, fabricates repair parts, sets up equipment, and operates various standard and specialized technical equipment.

Examples of services offered include:

  • Laboratory experimental apparatus design and troubleshooting
  • Mechanical and electrical maintenance
  • Plumbing services, including high-pressure and vacuum systems
  • Refrigeration system maintenance
  • Part fabrication and prototyping
  • Structural welding
  • Equipment setup and student mentoring
