Academics

ECU offers a large selection of units (courses) across many disciplines. Exchange students may choose units in any study area, as long as they meet any prerequisites for the unit. Browse ECU’s course catalog called the Handbook here. Most students take 3-4 courses at ECU at a total of 60 ECU credit points. Units starting with a number 1, 2, or 3 are undergraduate level and typically correspond with 1st, 2nd and 3rd year units. Visit the semester online timetable to see if the units will be running in a particular semester.

Estimated budget for a semester at Edith Cowan University.

Exchange students are required to arrange Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) before arrival in Australia and to maintain cover throughout their course.

Education abroad students in Australia are eligible to work up to 40 hours every two weeks based on their student visa status. During orientation on location, students can inquire about available job opportunities on campus or in the community.

Campus Living Villages (CLV) manages ECU’s on-campus housing. It offers fully furnished apartments and a vibrant student community, all located minutes from the university. Apartments are fully furnished with private bedrooms, large kitchens and spacious lounge areas. Due to the high demand for on-campus accommodation, exchange students should apply early.

You can also choose to live in a Homestay in a private home with an Australian family. The chance to be involved in the daily life, the learning of our culture and customs plus the added advantage of having the company of other people are just some of the reasons Homestay is popular. The prices may vary depending on individual arrangements. You can request a homestay placement before leaving your country of residence and you will be notified of your family details so that you can go straight to your homestay family from the airport.

Campuses

As the two metropolitan campuses ( Joondalup and Mount Lawley) are located approximately 25 km apart (18 miles), it is preferable to choose units on one campus only. If you would like to enroll in units at both campuses, you should allow about 1.5 hours to travel between the two on public transportation (driving takes about 20 minutes). The South West regional campus at Bunbury, located approximately 180 km south of Perth (120 miles), offers a range of units if you would prefer to study in a smaller campus and town. You also have the option of studying some units online, however, you will need to be enrolled in at least one on-campus unit per semester.

Courses marked “Exchange” (For Students On Exchange) means that these units are for ECU students only who are heading overseas for their exchange. These courses are not open to UMaine students going to ECU. Most courses marked with ‘Joondalup’, ‘Mt Lawley’ or ‘Off’, which is the vast majority of offered courses, are available to UMaine exchange students.
