Tony Cyrus
Tony Cyrus earned a Master’s degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Maine and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Boston University, where he studied bassoon with Matthew Ruggiero from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as trombone and voice. While at B.U., Tony had the privilege of playing in the All-American College Marching Bands for the grand opening of Disney’s EPCOT park in Orlando and at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Tony is a past Director of Instrumental Music for Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, New Hampshire, and had previously taught music in the schools of Howland and Brewer, Maine.
Tony is the First Sergeant of the 195th Army Band in Bangor, in which he performs on multiple instruments and is the assistant conductor. He also served in the 567th Air Force Band of the Northeast, stationed at Milford, MA, where he performed on bassoon, trombone, and piano. This service included a deployment to Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Afghanistan to entertain the troops at bases and hospitals. In addition to his military band performing, Tony played bassoon and contrabassoon for 20 years with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and more recently with Maine Pro Musica and with the Acadia Winds, under Anthony Maiello.
