Laren Lynn

Biography

Laren Lynn received her early dance training at the American Ballet Theatre School in New York City and has attended the Royal Academy School of Dance in London, England. She began her Modern Dance training at Connecticut College while earning a degree in Zoology. She received the Dance Award for Artistic Excellence her senior year.

After graduation Laren went on to study and dance professionally in N.Y.C.  She has had the opportunity to dance several of the works of Charles Weidman and Doris Humphrey with the Deborah Carr Theatre Dance Ensemble and appears in the video Charles Weidman on His Own. She has been a dancer with the Diane Jacobowitz Dance Theater, The Labrynth Dance Theater, Alan Danielson, Lenore Latimore, and Libby Nye among others.  She has been a dancer in residence at the Yard on Martha’s Vineyard performing the works of Colin Connor and Alan Danielson and has performed at the American Dance Festival in North Carolina.

Since moving to Maine in 1991, Laren has performed with the Robinson Ballet and Making Tracks Dance Co. She has taught at River City Dance in Bangor and Ellsworth and has been teaching at the University of Maine since 1993. Laren has participated in numerous school programs and festivals around the State of Maine.  Laren recently had the opportunity to complete the National Dance Institute’s Teacher Training program in N.Y.C.

In addition to teaching Ballet and Modern Dance at UMaine, she is currently teaching dance to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in both Carmel and Etna-Dixmont in a program sponsored by Community Health and Counseling.
