Maine High School Students Work to Combat Environmental Issue
84 students from 14 high schools across the state are spending part of their summer doing some cutting-edge scientific research.
“For the past couple days we have been learning about stormwater as a pervasive environmental issue,” said Takquan Parks, a senior at Bangor High School.
The UMaine Stormwater Management Research Team–or SMART–is a federally-funded collaboration between the university and local high schools.
They spent Wednesday taking water samples from the Stillwater River.
