Rise center research

The RiSE Center’s faculty, staff, and students make meaningful contributions to STEM education research at both national and international levels. By uniting researchers across the University of Maine— from specialties including Biology and Ecology, Chemistry, Education and Human Development, Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Marine Sciences, and Physics Education Research—the RiSE Center fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to advance the understanding of teaching and learning in STEM. This work is largely supported by grant funding, enabling innovative research that bridges disciplines and drives meaningful impact.

Our research is guided by the framework outlined in Henrick et al. (2023) called Research-Practice Partnerships (RPPs). We emphasize the importance of cultivating trust, engaging in collaborative inquiry, supporting community goals, and fostering ongoing learning. This ensures that our collaborative efforts are responsive to local needs, promote meaningful engagement, and contribute to sustainable improvements.

Faculty from across the University of Maine’s colleges collaborate with the RiSE Center to advance STEM education research, leading to impactful publications in a variety of fields. Their interdisciplinary work reflects a shared commitment to improving teaching and learning, integrating perspectives from science, education, and beyond. Visit our publications page to explore their latest research and contributions.
