First Year Success Initiative: Update

Wednesday, May 15 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., DPC 100

On September 27, 2018, Provost Hecker led an Academic Affairs Faculty Forum at which he shared background data and analyses related to student success and failure. He presented a draft proposal for how UMaine administrators, faculty, and staff can work together to improve first-year student success.

At the May 15, 2019 Academic Affairs Faculty Forum, Provost Hecker and others will provide an update on the progress made through the First Year Student Success Initiative in AY 18-19.

During this academic year, over a hundred faculty, staff, administrators and graduate students have been involved in ten working groups charged with developing recommendations related to first-year student success. Each group was given a set of guiding principles to use as they worked through their specific tasks.  Draft recommendation reports are available on the individual Working Group pages on the First Year Student Success Initiative website. At this Forum, representatives from each of the Working Groups will share key insights and key recommendations. There will be an opportunity for discussion and questions.

All UMaine community members are encouraged to attend. For those unable to attend, a video of the Forum and an opportunity to provide feedback will be available through this webpage after the Forum.
