Happy first day of classes, Black Bears! 

Today marks the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year at the University of Maine and the University of Maine at Machias. After a beautiful summer season, it is exciting to see campuses brimming with the energy and anticipation that you bring. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning after summer break, we are happy to welcome you home. Our outstanding faculty and staff are here to help you find your way and find success.

Enjoy today’s beautiful weather! As your schedule permits, choose an event to attend or explore a new part of the campus. Take a walk over to and take a look at the renovations underway at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena and Shawn Walsh Hockey Center. At Machias check out the updated student lounge in Dorward. 

Connect with campus life at the UMaine Involvement Fair tomorrow from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the Mall, and explore UMM’s clubs and organizations fair from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on September 18. 

Coming soon: more detailed updates about changes and improvements on campus, and the progress underway in the Strategic Re-Envisioning initiative launched last spring.

But today, focus on having a great start!
